Marek Siwiec MEP on Poland & Europe

I do not want to put a damper on a nice atmosphere around the European budget. It is better to have a multiannual perspective than not to have it at all. I would not like to put joyful minister Sikorski in a bad mood either. He is trying to save his own hide since he was the one to promise 300 billion in television spots a year and a half ago. On Friday, he wrote on twitter that we will get 301 which is in fact more than the amount promised. And here’s the rub. There is a small fly in the ointment which will soon be used by the media to cure all the cuts and bruises gained by the public during budget discussions and delight Polish society.

Question 1: If we know what gross amount we will get maybe someone should count the net amount? Poland’s contribution to the EU bugdet is quite high. It is only the grant minus the contribution that will show us a real help from the EU.

Question 2: They say in the “EUobserver” that a new perspective is full of bonuses. Something special for France, Germany. It is also known that transport, energy Internet and Galileo expenditures were cut. How will these spending cuts influence Polish economy?

Let these questions not disturb the incoming satisfaction and, on the contrary, help better prepare ourselves for the most difficult task- a reasonable spending of this money.
