Many journalists asked me about the assessment of the Polish Presidency. It was very unbalanced – a lot of promises, the total absence during the elections and a nice ending. It is difficult to give one grade to a student who came to the inauguration of the year wearing a nice school uniform, then played truant, and at the end of the year boned up for the final exam and passed it.
That has happened in the foreground. It has been much better in the surrounding fields. Hundreds of young Polish bureaucrats have experienced a little the reality of the EU structures. It will be useful for their further careers because they saw how the real political service works. The cultural programme, in turn, has been quite impressive.
The hundreds of diplomats will soon return to Warsaw and in the new huge embassy there will be a lot of free space…Author : Marek Siwiec MEP
